The biomass plant in Wellingborough is set to generate 4.8MW of electricity and will have a production capacity of around 38,400MWh per year, enough power to provide electricity for c.12,800 homes, while displacing approximately 9,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The project encompassed civil works and the design and build of 1 industrial unit, which comprised a 2-storey commercial unit complete with all foundations and supports for the biomass production plant, all external works, including retaining walls, gates and fencing, service yards and car park.
The commercial unit was constructed with a steel portal frame together with a built up cladding system to roof and walls and 200mm thick reinforced concrete floor slab, specifically designed for 30KN/m2.
The foundations consisted of mass concrete bases and strip foundations and the external envelope of the unit comprised aluminium window strips to the commercial areas with industrial sectional overhead doors and steel personal door sets.
The Wellingborough Biomass Plant demonstrated Tolent’s ability to deliver industrial and commercial buildings, working to a phased construction plan while achieving multiple cost savings through value engineering exercises and specialist subcontractor packages.
