Located in the heart of Peterlee, a mix of family houses and bungalows are being developed at Tamar Close and Teign Close by the County Durham-based housing association, believe housing.
The scheme includes 29 three-bed family houses alongside 10 two-bed and 2 three-bed bungalows. The site was formerly used for housing but has been vacant for some time but will now offer to help meet some of the demand in the local area for more affordable homes and bungalows in particular. The whole ethos of believe housing's development programme is to take smaller sites, like this, and turn them into much needed new housing.
The 12 bungalows, which will be easily adaptable for wheelchair users, will be available for affordable rent. All 29 houses will be available under the government-backed 'Rent to Buy' scheme, designed to ease the transition from renting to buying a home by offering a reduced rent, usually around 20% below the market rate.
Construction is expected to take 15 months, with the first families moving in late summer 2020.
