Situated in the small Middlesbrough suburb of Acklam, a stone’s throw away from Acklam Hall, Tees Valley Hospital is an innovative health care facility which enables health care professionals to deliver their services to over 35,000 patients each year.
Tees Valley Hospital is a three-storey private medical centre, operated by Ramsay Health Care. The centre boasts an endoscopy suite, 19nr bed in-patient ward, operating theatre and recovery bays, diagnostic suite including X-Ray, ultrasound and mobile MRI facilities.
In addition to these facilities, the centre includes a number of consulting and treatment rooms. The steel framed building was constructed on Continuous Flight Auger board pile foundations. The superstructure comprised facing brickwork, coloured render, composite aluminium wall cladding with polyester powder coasted aluminium windows,
doors and screens.
The building had a composite cladding roof system, pre-cast beam and block to the ground floors and in situ concrete on a metal deck permanent formwork to the upper floors. The floor plates were divided into separate wards: diagnostic; physiotherapy; day-care and; theatre suites including associated administration, and staff and management facilities.
The building's envelope comprised a hybrid of masonry and rendered finish walls, composite cladding and curtain walling.
The building also incorporated an undercroft service yard which provided car parking, ambulance access, clinical waste, refuse disposal; and plant areas. To construct the undercroft, Kingspan corrugated sheet with loose fill insulation was fitted to the metal deck of the floor above.
Tees Valley Hospital is a fine example of Tolent’s ability to deliver an innovative medical facility to a Grade l Listed site and Conservation Area to Health Technical Memorandum Standards, as well as engaging the local community, ensuring minimal disruption to neighbouring residents.
