This development was a large, long term and trailblazing social housebuilding project which encompassed the construction of 143 bungalows, houses and flats together with infrastructure to form a planned new village community.
The site was a huge boost to affordable housing in the area as all the new homes were allocated for social rent. There was one exception to this, as one bespoke bungalow was built for an owner with specific health requirements.
The first phase of houses achieved Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. This highly efficient rating illustrates that the properties are highly insulated, and further sustainability was accomplished through the inclusion of 'Smart' gas and electric metres as well as integrated PhotoVoltaic panels.
Tolent's commitment to sustainable building achieved widespread recognition, culminating in the Ryhope Village development winning Constructing Excellence North East 2014 Sustainability Award.
At the time of delivery, Tolent Living was a member of the Gentoo Group. During delivery the group assumed the role of the client, architect, developer and contractor with responsibility for taking all projects through the entire planning process.
