Overview

The project comprised the design and build of an 11,944 sq ft state-of-the-art veterinary centre in Whorral Bank, Morpeth.

The project addressed the requirement for an expansive surgery and veterinary centre for Robson and Prescott, as well as making way for a new supermarket to be constructed on the previous veterinary centre site on behalf of Dransfield Properties.

The award winning veterinary practice achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’ status and comprised 4nr operating theatres, a dental suite, fully-equipped diagnostic laboratory, x-ray room, ultrasound, endoscopies, a physiotherapy and hydrotherapy suite and 6nr consulting rooms. The central administration block incorporated offices, a meeting space, reception, and dispensary and waiting space with 936 sq ft of staff accommodation on the first floor level.

The accommodation includes provision for overnight stays for nurses required for the supervision of in-patients. A 2,150 sq ft large animal and equine wing contained loose boxes, equine surgical facilities including an examination room and padded knock down box, which enables vets to safely anaesthetise horses without them falling over and hurting themselves.

Externally, there were car parking facilities which accommodated 60nr cars, horse boxes and stock trailers as well as a menagerie and paddock. Reclaimed, local Alnwick stone was utilised in the construction of the two-storey farm house building with local Alnwick stone and rustic brick used for the main house in addition to block and Yorkshire boarding.

Tolent carried the design, build and fit-out of the Robson & Prescott Veterinary Centre in Morpeth, which provided many state of the art facilities such as 4 operating theatres,  and fully-equipped diagnostic laboratory.

 

The veterinary centre won a prestigious Practice Design Award in 2013
