Kingsmill Studios is ideally situated on Kingsmill Lane, a stone’s throw away from the University of Huddersfield and the city centre with river views that would be more at home in a boutique hotel than a student residence.
The project consisted of the design and build of the sophisticated, high-specification student living accommodation. We also carried out the fit out to of the fully-furnished 90 self-contained studios and 4 two bed apartments.
Each apartment comes with a fully-fitted kitchen, bedroom and study area with a flat screen TV in every room. The development is complete with a spacious shared living areas, a gym, cinema room, study room, management suite and laundry room.
Kingsmill Studios is a timber frame building with stone cladding, constructed on a vibro-piled site with traditional concrete footings. The development was a combination of three and four story buildings alongside the River Colne and clad in a local stone. The timber frame works were efficiently completed in 20 weeks which enabled Tolent to meet the stringent dates to allow the new student intake to take possession for the new term. Using the timber frame on this project was c.30% quicker than if we had used traditional methods of construction.
Tolent completed the full fit out of Kingsmill Studios, delivering the modern apartments in line with the Empiric Student Property’s (ESP) standard specifications. The development was characterised by its high-quality design and leading student housing amenities and stylish and durable fixtures and fittings.
Combining Huddersfield’s rich architectural heritage with practical and contemporary facilities to suit the vibrant student population, Kingsmill Studios pays homage to the city’s industrial past, with materials and a style that is reflective of the building's neighbouring context.
Kingsmill Studios provides 90 high specification student apartments, as well as spacious shared living areas, gym, cinema room, study room, management suite and laundry room.
This project demonstrates Tolent’s ability to deliver premium purpose-built student accommodation on a restricted site in a prime university city while working collaboratively with the client to streamline design and realise cost savings.
