Built on a greenfield site in rural Berwick, the project consisted of 40 new build homes, including 10 bungalows specifically designed for older people.
All homes were built to achieve Code for Sustainable Home Level 3 and Secured by Design standards.
At the start of the build, access to the site was governed by a protected water main which supplied the town of Berwick. This presented a significant risk, which was flagged by our project team during an early risk workshop, as any damage to the main would incur damages as well as any disruption to the town and community.
Tolent sourced and installed a pipe protection slab manufactured from precast concrete and heavily reinforced steel to protect the pipes during construction which removed all associated risks.
Tolent's commitment to reducing wastage and pursuing environmentally friendly approaches to construction was demonstrated by the recycling of over 600 tonnes of sub-base materials from a different Tolent site, allowing us to make cost savings in the process.
