Great North Air Ambulance

The pre-existing commercial building was renovated first to allow the fundraising and admin staff to move into the facility, where work on the hangar and landing facilities for the aircrafts began.

The project delivered a world-class facility which has enabled the client to develop their training functions and allow them to research new equipment and methods that will save lives in the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

The walls were cladded in composite aluminium and incorporated louvers, polyester powder coated aluminium windows, doors and screens. A composite cladding top-deck roof system was installed, with the ground floor and first floor being in situ concrete. The floor plates were divided into a hangar area, with an associated commercial unit, which included, storage rooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, associated administration rooms, staff facilities, management and plant areas.

The site also incorporated a helipad with aviation lighting and a 25,000 litre fuel tank. Externally, access roads, a covered car parking area, hard standing with associated drainage and landscaping were provided.

The project also included the refurbishment of an existing office to create a new headquarters, consisting of alterations and upgrading the building, including:

  • The formation of new offices with louvered glazed partitions;
  • Upgrading mechanical and electrical services;
  • New floor coverings and decoration;
  • Overlaying the existing car park with tarmacadam asphalt and;
  • The installation of new external lighting.

This has been a fantastic project to be a part of, and one we can see making a significant impact on the day-to-day operations of one of our region’s most remarkable charities.
