The Elizabethan is an award-winning development providing housing for over 55s, built on the site of the old Elizabethan pub. Community engagement ensured the brownfield site was sensitively developed in the rural community.
The works comprised 16 two-bedroom apartments for rent and specifically tailored and designed with the needs of the over 55 market in mind by incorporating flexible layouts. All of the works were designed to meet Lifetime Homes Standards, Secure by Design and Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.
The development featured shared internal spaces, private balconies, parking, charging points for mobility scooters and shared landscaped areas. Specialist elements to the build included; ‘care ready’ design, telecare technology, a door entry system and a lift providing access to all floors.
The project manager was recognised for this exceptional performance at the Elizabethan, receiving the Achiever of the Year Award from Construction Excellence North East.The project site achieved ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ by the Considerate Contractors Scheme with a score of 43/50 receiving ‘Exceptional’ scores in three areas.
Children from Berwick Middle School, St. Mary’s C of E School, Happy Days Nursery, Sure Start and staff from the Coast Guard, RNLI, Police, Fire and Ambulance services contributed to the ‘People of Berwick’ themed boards which included designs to reflect the important people of Berwick, historic people of Berwick and the future people of Berwick.
The hoardings competition engaged the local community and came runner-up in the National Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition run by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
