Overview

Nestled in the picturesque Scottish Borders countryside, Stobo Castle is a Historic Scotland Category A-listed building which offers a unique and luxury destination spa, dining and leisure experience to its guests.

The redevelopment saw the addition of new state-of-art health spa facilities, additional bedrooms and suites and provision of new retail facilities to recreate the castle as a five star destination spa resort.

Phase 1:

Phase 1 of the project was to provide an extension to the castle to house the new 25m swimming pool, treatment rooms, gym and hydrotherapy areas. The ground floor housed the 25m swimming pool, 15 treatment rooms, hydro spa, relaxation areas, aerobics studio, steam rooms. The first floor housed a further 25 treatment rooms, a hair salon, a beauty therapy suite, a gymnasium as well as plant and store rooms.

Throughout the 52 week programme, the scheme delivered 30,000 sq ft of leisure facilities whilst the Castle remained open and fully operational and it is testament to the planning and co-ordination of the project team that not one complaint was received from a guest during this time about the building works.

Phase 2:

Phase 2 saw former treatment rooms converted into 7 luxury en suite bedrooms, whilst the former hair salon was converted into 700 sq ft of retail space. The former, smaller retail space was converted into a 540 sq ft juice bar for the exclusive use of the hotel guests. The existent 570 sq ft changing facilities for day guests was also fully refurbished as part of the project. The former 10m swimming pool was remodelled to form a 1000 sq ft luxury apartment named the Cashmere Suite, Stobo Castle’s most exclusive suite.

Phase 3:

Phase 3 saw the creation of the luxury 12 bedroom Castle Lodge, which was an existing building set away from the main castle building, converted from the former staff residential quarters.

The elevation treatments included the replacement of all windows to enlarged openings and the installation of Juliet balconies, with new sections of cedar boarding installed between windows vertically and the existing render was redecorated. The existing roof was repaired and re-insulated and all rainwater goods were replaced. Internally, the bedrooms and bathrooms were fitted with high-quality fitted furniture and sanitary ware and each bedroom was decorated to a luxury and individual design.

The redevelopment of Stobo Castle & Spa saw the addition of new state-of-art health spa facilities, additional bedrooms and suites and provision of new retail facilities to establish the castle as a five star destination spa resort.
