Overview

Sage Headquarters encompasses 375,000 sq ft of highly-serviced modern office accommodation, comprising 6nr office pavilions which surround an expansive central glazed atrium. The facilities include a state-of-the-art gym, coffee shop, restaurant, cash point and a dry cleaners.

Over 2,250 m2 of double glazed laminated glass was used to form the 6nr separate vertical glazed screens to create the large T-shaped glazed atrium. In addition to providing an environmental buffer and covered circulation space between the adjacent office pavilions, the atrium shaped the communal hub of the building; establishing a social core with opportunities for break out spaces, concessions areas as well as a space for informal and formal meetings.

The glazed atrium links together the office pavilions and opens out onto two external landscaped courtyards with outdoor seating areas, symbolising the coming together of the Sage workforce. In order to meet the changing needs of the end users, the building services were designed to provide maximum flexibility.

For example, allowing internal partitions to be erected at 1.8m anywhere on the floor plates without the need for major disruption to the engineering services. Sage Group UK required the building to be delivered in a short timescale and so the scheme was granted ‘special project’ status by Tolent, with a full-time, on-site regional director reporting progress directly to our group board of directors.

Tolent worked in close collaboration with the design team for a period of 4 month ahead of the programme to ensure that the design concept was buildable and that any issues surrounding cost and programme were mitigated. The programme was based on the provision of information packages provided by the design team. We worked collaboratively with the design team and employed 3D visualisation techniques to present to design proposals to the client for staged sign off approvals.

Virtual reality modelling was also utilised to allow the client to visualise the development to ensure that any design changes were minimal. This ultimately allowed the project team to proceed with the construction of the development with confidence.

The close working relationship fostered between ourselves and the design team was integral to the successful completion of the project and ensured that the project was delivered on time and to the complete satisfaction of the client.

Sage HQ is a fine example of a landmark project delivered by Tolent and a demonstration of our ability to design and build large and architecturally sophisticated commercial headquarters.
