The project encompassed the design and construction of the iconic Northern Design Centre which embodied functional design and striking architecture, providing premium studios and conference facilities centred on service.
The iconic structure complements the metropolitan Newcastle Gateshead skyline and is considered to be one of the premier locations for creative and design led businesses in the North East of England.
The site was previously part of an old industrial area, primed for redevelopment adjacent to newly completed college buildings and business premises. The business centre was constructed on behalf of Gateshead Council by private sector developer Terrace Hill, reviving the former industrial plot with the funding secured through regional development agency One North East.
The bespoke 4-storey structure comprised the construction of 52,714 sq ft of bespoke commercial office space, including exhibition rooms, conferencing facilities, training areas, workshops and incubator spaces for start-up and design-based firms with associated surface and under croft car parking facilities with electric vehicle charging points, landscaping and substation.
