Overview

Situated on the banks of the River Wear, Sunderland Hilton Garden Inn is ideally located adjacent to the Stadium of Light, home to Sunderland’s premier football club and gateway to the Stadium Village development.

The hotel is the only one of its type between Birmingham and Glasgow; catering for the discerning business and leisure traveller.

The project comprised the design and build of the hotel which encompassed 141 en-suite bedrooms, a fitness suite, 24-hour business centre, lounge, bar and various meeting rooms accommodating up to 70 delegates. The bedrooms consisted of 41 twin rooms, 8 accessible rooms, 26 king rooms, 18 double queen rooms, 44 double queen rooms with en-suite bath and 4 suites. The hotel also housed a destination restaurant, the Karbon Grill, with a contemporary design which reflects its innovative and modern style.

The generous and aesthetically impressive design of the interior public spaces drew inspiration from Sunderland's proud industrial heritage in glass-making, including a reception atrium which featured an eclectic mix of fabrics, furnishings and fittings.

The building featured MX curtain walling on the front main entrance to the hotel, boasting a glass-to-glass corner joint with feature channel pressings, as-well-as a 50m run of curtain walling on the south elevation. This provided access to the Karbon Grill restaurant. The modern reception hosted a Wicona skylight, delivering a delicate appearance, with minimal offset of the glass level; allowing natural light to illuminate the area.

The venue provides high quality, good value accommodation for those visiting the North East. This includes football fans and concert-goers attending events at the neighbouring Stadium of Light, tourists exploring the surrounding area and those doing business with key companies based in and around the city itself; acting as catalyst for the further redevelopment of this key Sunderland area, of which Tolent have played a significant part.

Tolent undertook the design, build and fit out of The Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland. The four star hotel comprises 141 en-suite bedrooms, a fitness suite, 24 hour business centre, bar, lounge and various meeting rooms accommodating up to 70 delegates.
