Cherry Tree Gardens is a development of 40 apartments and an attached PassivHaus certified 7 bungalow complex . The scheme incorporated a number of facilities designed to enable elderly residents live independent lives, providing an appropriate alternative to residential care.
The development featured assistive technology to aid independent living and full wheelchair access to all floors, as well as an on-site hair and beauty salon, communal lounge & dining room and a landscaped garden.
It was important that the development promoted accessibility and adaptability for the elderly, and as a result we ensured that we met the following standards:
The scheme was awarded a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability in a number of areas including (but not limited to): energy, transport, water, materials, waste, pollution and innovation. The scheme’s sustainability credentials were recognised by RICS, with the North East Award for Sustainability and Design 2013.
The development also achieved a Showcasing Housing in the North East (SHINE) Award for demonstrating excellence in the Older People category.
