Overview

Tolent completed the design and construction of a new headquarters building for the Bannatyne Group, to enhance the service to its customers. 

The building provides the opportunity for the further growth of Bannatyne’s operations, as-well-as the potential of letting a proportion of the space to commercial tenants as state-of-the-art serviced offices.

The company has over 60 health clubs across the UK, plus hotels and spas and employs in the region of 3,500 staff, making it Britain’s largest independent health club operator. The new building was located adjacent to its previous base in Haughton Road, Darlington and accommodates 80 staff with disabled access to the building.

The building included the latest technology and internet bandwidth to enable it to effectively and efficiently operate its health club membership systems, spa business call centre and online bookings from the one centralised location.

The building’s substructure consisted of piled foundations with a superstructure comprising structural steel frame and SIPs panels, with a built up insulation and render system for the external walls.

The project delivered the high-specification 4-storey office building, together with external works and associated car parking to the complete satisfaction of the client, both on time and within the client’s budget.

The original contract was for the structural shell with limited internal works, however, during construction the scope was increased to include the whole internal fit out package. The increased scope of works followed on from the good working relationship we fostered with the client, who were impressed with the cleanliness of the site, the speed of construction and the empathetic and hard working attitude of the project team.
