Project Spotlight: Oikos Storage
Tolent’s Teesside office worked on a £14 million project at Canvey Island, Essex, for Oikos Storage Ltd. The contract involved the repair, refurbishment and maintenance of 16 large tanks (up to 30 metres in diameter and 12 metres high) and other on-site infrastructure.
Oikos Storage is an independently owned, specialist operator of bulk liquid storage facilities. The company has been active in Canvey Island for over seventy years.
Project Spotlight: GlaxoSmithKline, Coleford
Tolent completed a £2.8 million contract to provide a new bottling plant in GlaxoSmithKline’s soft drink factory at Coleford in the Forest of Dean. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has invested £18 million overall in its Gloucestershire Lucozade and Ribena production facility to develop a high-speed, high-efficiency bottling line which will manufacture the two brands using state-of-the-art technology. Tolent’s contract involved foundation work, the construction of a steel frame and internal works including tiled flooring, food-safe cladding to the wall and roof and complex M&E services.
The added capacity will improve cost efficiency by removing the need to maintain costly stocks of product. Rob Baxter, VP and general manager of GSK's Coleford site, described the investment in redevelopment as “a huge step forward in terms of continually improving our efficiency and providing a highly responsive service for our customers who often need deliveries at short notice.”
Project Spotlight: MSD Cramlington
As part of several phases of construction, Tolent carried out a variety of works for the development of a key tablet manufacturing and packaging site at Cramlington for Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD). Employing almost 400 people and supplying 90 countries worldwide, it is considered one of the world's most advanced technological pharmaceutical sites. MSD is a global healthcare leader working to address unmet health needs.
The company provides innovative medicines, vaccines, biologic therapies and consumer and animal health products to help improve health and well-being. MSD works with customers in 140 countries to deliver broad-based healthcare solutions. Tolent has an ongoing presence on site providing maintenance services.
Project Spotlight: Polyethylene Plastics Plant, Wilton
Working on behalf of our client, Katoen Natie, Tolent carried out this £5.7 million contract as part of the development of Sabic’s new Polyethylene Plastics Plant at Wilton International, Teesside. Working with the structural design company, BWB, Tolent’s contract involved site clearance and re-mediation, bulk excavation, installation of new services, large reinforced concrete piled foundations, suspended reinforced concrete floors in the bagging plant, office block, loading ramps and weigh bridges, over-site concrete slabs, roads and on-site finishes.
The petrochemical plant environment required the extremely high standards of Health & Safety which Tolent are renowned (we maintain and continually improve an Occupational Health and Safety management system as part of our OHSAS 18001 accreditation). Recycled products were extensively used on the scheme, including crushed existing concrete and brick structures on-site to form new hardcore.
Project Spotlight: Biodiesel Plant, Teesside
Working on behalf of client Biofuels Corporation, Tolent carried out this £4.6 million contract as part of the development of a new biodiesel plant in Seal Sands. Working with Project Management company, Simon Projects, Tolent’s contract involved demolition and site clearance, bulk excavation, tubular steel piling, reinforced concrete pile caps and ground beams, over-site concrete slabs, deep drainage (including sheet piling and dewatering techniques), general services, roads and on-site finishes.
Access to site over a live railway line and the petrochemical plant environment required the extremely high standards of Health & Safety which Tolent are renowned (we maintain and continually improve an Occupational Health and Safety management system as part of our OHSAS 18001 accreditation). Thousands of tonnes of recycled stone were used to make up levels on site.
