Victoria Halls, Byron Street
Project Details
This £18.7m project consisted of a series of linked blocks comprising 445 no student bedrooms spread over 120 no self-contained flats.
The timber-framed structures were constructed off a podium structure, which spanned over a light rail system. The accommodation was of high standard and formed the benchmark for all current Victoria Hall schemes.
The work consisted of removal of the existing tracks in a railwaycutting construction of a rail tunnel and podium and reinstatementof the railway and infrastructure. The track came back into use and construction of the accommodation commenced from podium level and a footprint that extended onto the land either side of the railway cutting. Careful management and co-ordination of site activities with both the Client and the Rail Operator were critical and it is to the credit of all concerned that the construction operations were completed without incident.
The units were fully serviced including electronic door entry system, Sky TV and a full CCTV security system.
The turnkey solution included the fit out of furniture, fixtures andfittings ensuring students were able to move in and use all facilities upon handover.
Awards: Victoria Hall has won numerous awards for excellence including“UK’s Best Private Halls Provider” and“Best Value for Money” 2012 and 2011.
