Morrisons Superstore, Morpeth
Project Details
Tolent were engaged by Dransfield Properties Ltd to design and construct a state-of-the-art 50,000 sq ft foodstore at Low Stanners, Morpeth for Morrisons. The development created an opportunity for Morrisons to relocate from its Stanley Terrace site to a much larger store. The sales area of 25,000 sq ft in the new store allowed Morrisons unique Market Street fresh food counters including butchers, bakers and fishmongers. Staff at the existing store transferred to the new store when it opened and new local job opportunities were created.
The development included 283 short stay car parking spaces as well as 296 undercroft long stay spaces. A pedestrian link to the town centre as well as an attractive public realm and landscaping scheme ensured that the development was in keeping with the historic Northumberland town centre.
An existing Veterinary Centre based at Low Stanners was required to be relocated to Whorral Bank as part of the overall development of the site.
