Project Details
The transformation of a 1930s office block into 63 high specification, self-contained student apartments, as well as astriking leisure and retail unit on the ground floor in the heart of Newcastle City Centre. Tolent is well-versed in working in busy city centre locations and this project was no different with a number of challenges including a significant pedestrian presence around the site due to its vicinity (under 100m) to one of the UK's largest retail streets outside of London (Northumberland Street).
Site access for deliveries requiredcareful planning to avoid adding to an already congested areasduring peak periods. The conversion was completed against challenging time frameswith works including:
Asbestos surveys and removal;
Soft strip and demolition;
Concrete frame repairs;
New lift installations;
Refurbishment of existing windows;
Installation of secondary glazing;
Refurbishment of existing roof;
Facade clean;
New partitions and suspended ceilings;
New flooring;
Bathroom pods;
Mechanical & electrical installations & commissioning
