Bridon Rope Facility

Project Details
The second phase of the former Neptune Yard shipbuilding site in Walker was developed to allow construction of a new 78,000sq.ft purpose built rope production facility serving both the offshore and industrial markets worldwide.
Bridon International Ltd expanded their operation from their current Willington Quay facility due to global demand and their new facility comprises a number of overhead cranes with capacities ranging from 10 tonnes to 150 tonnes, take up stands that coil the completed rope onto reels are manoeuvred on rail bases for discharge onto road vehicles or via the heavy load out area where they will be loaded onto boats for onward shipment via the North sea.
Large recesses to house specialist machinery were sunk into the floor slab with extensive tanking incorporated to counteract water ingress.
Other spaces within an attached ancillary area of the building comprised an open plan office space, changing and shower facilities as well as staff welfare and meeting facilities.The building incorporates some environmental features such as the use of air source heat pumps to provide underfloor heating to the ancillary office area , solar panels to pre heat hot water, a rainwater harvesting system and low energy lighting throughout.
