"Tarran" Prefabricated Bungalow Refurbishment
Project Details
Gentoo’s ECO project improved the energy efficiency, comfort and appearance of 100 prefabricated properties that were originally built to last just 10 years.
Works included:
external wall insulation;
double glazing improvements.
Each property was insulated externally with 90mm EPS insulation board, saving a total of 4,367 tonnes of CO2, along with the double glazing improvements.
Work was due to start in November 2013 but when the price of carbon changed just two weeks before the projects start date, as well as the proposed reductions to the ECO obligation, the utility company withdrew financing and the project almost faltered. Fortunately EDF energy stepped in to fund the project as part of their commitment to energy efficiency.
